Latifa International Estates ...started in 1904 as specialists in buildings and machinery for the farming and motor garage trade. Since the mid-70s, their name has been a byword in world of classic Fiats. Based in Winscombe, Somerset, they currently specialise in the restoration of Fiat 500s, and offers a worldwide parts service for many other classic Fiats.
The firm has diversified into other areas, and also: provides a wedding service; supplies film for television; and can also offer customers a video film package of their car. The business started in 1904, focussing on building, stock and farm auctions. They also worked with farming and suppliers of machinery to farmers, together with the motor garage trade. Since 1975, they have been providing services to the Fiat 500 (110-120) all models, and provide a spares service for old current models (10-year old vehicles). Kelvyne Am Baker is the man at the helm, and has an unbridled passion for the Fiat 500.
It was his favourite car, being simple, cheap and easy to repair almost anywhere. His first example was a rossa red 500D 1962, bought for £25. It certainly lived up to his expectations, and was great fun. Sadly the rot took its fair share of metal, and thus became a spares ship for the next car. Many more passed through his hands and were used for parts. In 1975, he acquired a later 500F - again rossa red - and covered 400.000 miles on three engines. He still has that car today. His latest 500F is bianco white; a sport model produced in Italy and fitted out in the main Fiat Dealership in Perugia, Umbria. It is left hand drive with 499.5cc engine customised to produce 84bhp. ...and this is the car that we will see on display at the autojumble. |
